SEMIOTICS ANALYSIS ON THE MAP OF “ASSASSIN’S CREED SYNDICATE” GAME

Symbol and sign always used by a lot of people on their daily life. Even inside of video game, symbol and sign also used in it. Symbol and sign on game have a lot of categories that people still do not know. This paper analyze the category of symbol and sign found in “Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Game’s Map” using semiotic analysis, and this paper also analyze the purpose of those symbol and sign. To answer the question, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method and describe the result of the study in form of paragraph. Using Perason (2015) theory to find the category of symbol and sign found in the game’s map. The result showed that from all of the symbol and sign that has been found, there are six categories of symbol and sign, and also there are two purposes of symbol and sign on the map of the game. The categories are symbol, pheme, icon, pheme, token, index, and rheme. The purposes are as map helper to read the map, and as map legend. The study concludes that semiotic analysis can help to find the categories from symbol and sign because the meaning of those symbol and sign could determine their categories
